Impeachment motions against Choe Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and Lee Chang-soo, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, have been passed in a plenary session of the National Assembly.

As a result, Choe and Lee will be suspended from their duties as soon as the impeachment resolutions are officially delivered by the Assembly.
On the morning of December 5, the National Assembly approved the impeachment motion against Choe with 188 votes in favor, 4 against, out of 192 members present. For Lee, the vote tallied 185 in favor, 3 against, and 4 invalid.
The remaining two prosecutors listed in the motions also saw 187 and 186 votes in favor, respectively.
Lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party boycotted the session in opposition to the impeachment motions.
Notably, this marks the first time in history that impeachment motions against the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District have passed, leading to their suspension from duties.
