Ireland Selects EMMY for Eurovision 2025
The selection took place during a special Eurosong edition of RTÉ's The Late Late Show, where six competitors performed. The winner was determined through a combination of public voting, an international jury, and a national jury.
EMMY's music career began early—she started writing songs at just seven years old. In 2015, at the age of 15, she participated in Melodi Grand Prix Junior, one of Norway's most significant music competitions for young artists.
Following her victory, she expressed shock and gratitude, saying she hopes to make Ireland proud and thanking the voters for their support.
Eurovision 2025: Key Dates
The Eurovision SemiFinals are set for May 13 and May 15, with the Grand Final on May 17 in Basel. This year’s contest is expected to be one of the most competitive yet, as countries across Europe prepare their entries.
Ireland's Eurovision History & Recent Success In 2024, Bambie Thug made history by becoming the first Irish contestant to qualify for a Eurovision Grand Final since 2018. Their entry finished in sixth place, marking Ireland’s best result since 2000.
However, their participation was not without controversy. The contest was overshadowed by protests regarding Israel’s involvement, with over 400 Irish artists signing a letter urging Bambie to boycott the competition. Despite pressure, Bambie emphasized the importance of proPalestinian representation at Eurovision.
During rehearsals, they were asked to remove proPalestinian symbols from their face, and their costume initially featured Ogham inscriptions translating to "ceasefire" and "freedom for Palestine." After the contest, Bambie accused Israel’s national broadcaster, Kan, of inciting violence against them. Several participants also reported that the Israeli delegation had filmed them without consent, leading to complaints addressed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
In response, the EBU stated that it would review the events of Eurovision 2024 with delegations to ensure that the competition’s values are upheld.
