IVE has announced a new policy declining fan gifts and organized support activities. The decision highlights growing concerns about excessive fan spending and promotes a healthier fandom culture.

IVE Announces Ban on Fan Gifts and Support, Sparking Conversation Across K-pop Fandoms

According to industry sources, K-pop girl group IVE has officially stated that they will no longer accept fan gifts or organized support, with the exception of handwritten fan letters. The announcement was shared through the group’s official fan community and quickly gained attention among global fans.

Starship Entertainment explained that the decision was made out of consideration for fans. The agency emphasized that they hope fans will use their resources where they are most needed, asking for understanding and cooperation. Any support projects already planned were also politely declined.

The move directly addresses the long-standing “fan support” culture in K-pop. This practice often involves fans sending luxury goods, food trucks, birthday advertisements, and expensive gifts to their favorite artists. While rooted in affection, the culture has increasingly raised concerns.

IVE member Jang Wonyoung has frequently been at the center of discussions surrounding extravagant fan gifts. With a particularly strong Chinese fanbase, her birthday celebrations have previously included luxury handbags and high-end jewelry brands. In some cases, publicly shared gift lists were estimated to be worth several million dollars.

However, critics argue that such practices place heavy financial pressure on fans. Competition between fan communities has intensified over time, leading to concerns about unhealthy spending habits and unequal participation within fandoms.

IVE is not alone in taking this stance. Many major K-pop artists, including BTS, IU, SEVENTEEN, TWICE, aespa, and others, have previously announced similar policies. These decisions have gradually reshaped fandom culture across the industry.

In response, fans have begun exploring alternative ways to show support. Donations made in artists’ names and charity projects have become more common. Some artists have even returned the gesture through “reverse support,” offering gifts or events for fans instead.

By setting clear boundaries, IVE’s decision reflects a broader shift toward sustainability and mutual respect between artists and fans. The announcement has sparked meaningful discussion about how fandom culture can evolve in a healthier direction.
