BLACKPINK’s Jennie is taking a firm stand against maliciously edited content after a controversial video spread rapidly online. Her agency says it is collecting evidence and pursuing legal action to protect the artist.
BLACKPINK Jennie Takes Legal Action Over Allegedly Manipulated Viral Video
BLACKPINK Jennie has become the focus of a major online controversy involving an allegedly manipulated video. According to local reports, the social media account believed to have first uploaded the clip has now been suspended.
The video appeared online around August 15. It seemed to show part of Jennie’s body exposed. Within roughly half a day, the clip reportedly surpassed 12.5 million views.
Its rapid spread immediately raised questions about authenticity. Online users debated whether the footage was genuine or digitally altered. Some suggested artificial intelligence may have been involved.
Concerns increased after other posts from the same account reportedly appeared suspicious. This fueled speculation that the Jennie video may also have been manipulated. However, the source material does not establish exactly how the clip was created.
Meanwhile, copies continued circulating across social media and online communities. The controversy also triggered sexually harassing and insulting comments targeting Jennie. Critics warned that repeated sharing could cause further harm, regardless of the video's authenticity.
Jennie’s agency, OA Entertainment, responded with a strong statement on August 18. The company said it had identified ongoing online activity involving false claims, malicious posts, and edited images or videos targeting its artist.
The agency also addressed content that could violate Jennie’s privacy and personal rights. It said professional legal representatives are monitoring related posts and accounts. Evidence is also being collected for potential legal proceedings.
According to the agency, serious cases involving violations of the artist’s rights are already facing civil and criminal action. It also warned against repeatedly uploading altered images or selected portions of videos.
As of August 19, the account linked to the original upload was suspended. Its previous posts and the controversial video were no longer accessible through the account.
The case has renewed concerns about manipulated celebrity content in the AI era. For BLACKPINK Jennie, the controversy also highlights how quickly questionable media can reach millions before its authenticity is established.
