Ji Chang-wook Leads Netflix’s “The Scandal” in a Dangerous Joseon Love Game
Ji Chang-wook is preparing to show a provocative new side in Netflix’s “The Scandal.” The upcoming Korean period drama places the popular actor at the center of desire, temptation, and emotional deception.
Ji Chang-wook plays Cho Won, a notorious playboy from the Joseon era. He values pleasure over status and has little interest in conventional ambition.
His dangerous game begins when Lady Cho, played by Son Ye-jin, proposes a secret wager. Cho Won accepts the challenge and sets his sights on Hui-yeon, portrayed by NANA.
However, what begins as calculated seduction soon becomes far more complicated. Hui-yeon is a widow determined to protect her virtue. She initially rejects Cho Won but gradually faces emotions she never expected.
The role gives Ji Chang-wook another opportunity to explore a darker romantic character. Rather than playing a straightforward hero, he enters a story built around temptation, manipulation, and forbidden attraction.
Meanwhile, Son Ye-jin adds another layer of tension as Lady Cho. Her character is an intelligent noblewoman whose ambitions are restricted by the social boundaries of her time. Her wager with Cho Won drives the three characters toward an increasingly dangerous relationship.
“The Scandal” draws inspiration from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ classic novel “Dangerous Liaisons.” The story is reimagined through Joseon society, combining period aesthetics with an adult tale of desire and power.
The series is directed by Jung Ji-woo, known for character-driven stories including “Tune in for Love” and Netflix’s “Somebody.” His involvement raises expectations for the psychological tension behind the romance.
Netflix is set to release “The Scandal” globally on September 18. With Ji Chang-wook, Son Ye-jin, and NANA leading its high-profile cast, the series is already drawing attention among international K-drama fans.
For Ji Chang-wook, Cho Won could become one of his most intriguing romantic roles yet. This time, romance is not simply about falling in love. It begins as a game where desire itself may carry the greatest risk.
